Chris Chike - Image 1Nabbing a Guinness World Record is a great feat in itself, but what’s even greater? Beating your own Guinness World Record, of course. And that’s exactly what Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (Xbox 360, WiiPlayStation 3, PC, and PS2) Guinness record holder Chris Chike did when he entered the Play N Trade National Guitar Hero Tournament.

The contest was initially held in over a hundred Play N Trade stores nationwide, with more than a thousand participants. Local winners were made to play DragonForce’s Through the Fire and the Flames – yes, the same tune that Chike plowed through in his quest for the Guinness World Record – and the 16-year-old teen managed to get a 98% rating with 889,256 points, besting his Guinness World Record of 840, 647. Chike was awarded with 2,000 in-store credit.

The runners-up were Daniel Juarez of San Antonio, Texas, with 751,077 points, and Mike Holmes of Lexington, Kentucky with 739,674 points. Juarez managed to nab a Sony PlayStation 3 and Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock bundle with 500 in-store credit, and Holmes got the same bundle, with 200 in-store credit.

It’s a happy day indeed for Chike, but there’s a possibility that he’ll get a higher score if he’s going to join another GH tournament. “I still haven’t scored as high in any tournament event as I have when I’ve played at home,” he said.
