360 German version of The Darkness to have a lot of cuts

The Darkness - Image 1

Bad news for Xbox 360 owners in Germany looking forward to enjoying Starbreeze‘s and 2K GamesThe Darkness. The localized version of the dark FPS title will not only have the Nazi symbolism and imagery removed, but also a few changes to the actual gameplay that could detract from the overall experience.

So what’s cut out, and what’s changed? Besides all the stuff that pertains to Nazism, four of the Darkling kill methods got the axe in the translation. And if you’ve been looking forward to having your Darklings chow down on some fresh, EXP-rich hearts, the animation itself got the cut. It was replaced with one that has your Darklings sucking down on souls (which appear as green mist) instead.

It’s a bit disappointing, isn’t it? Although, to be fair, they could have done a lot worse and banned the entire game instead given everything that happened recently in the industry. And if you really want to enjoy in its pure, unedited form, one could always easily import.

However, note that the act itself could have you spending some not-so-quality jail time for up to three years. Ouch.
