A Tale in the Desert – A community based MMO that is extremely addictive

While cruising for new and exciting MMOs on Sunday, I came across an interesting game titled A Tale in the Desert (Free trial here). The game has no currency and there is no combat whatsoever, but believe me, it’s extremely addictive. What’s cool about the game is that you literally start with nothing on a island in the middle of nowhere, and the objective is to figure out how to survive and eventually build a boat and sail off to Egypt to actually start your adventure. I know it sounds a bit corny, but trust me when I say it’s pretty awsome. I played for about 10 hours, and the time flew by.

Once you get the hang of things the possibilities are endless. When you build your boat and sail off to the mainland you have an almost infinite number of destinations to choose from and the game gives you 20 chances to find the place you like best to start building your life. After an hour or so of simply travelling from continent to continent, I finally decided on a city to settle in where I found a very helpful guild (very important to have help in the game at first) and staked my claim on a cozy lakefront property. I met some nice people, trained at a few of the universities – the primary source for learning new skills – built a house and did some exploring and resource collecting. I strongly recommend this game for those of you that enjoy community based MMOs and aren’t interesting in simply running the same old “kill all” quests/trials/missions. The learning curve is about an hour so don’t get discouraged if you have problems at first. I found it very easy to get help so don’t hesitate to ask. The starting point is called “Newbie Island” after all.
