Amazon Japan’s Best of 2006: Dirge of Cerberus(?)

Amazon Japan

Who loves RPG’s? A heckuva lot of people in Japan, apparently. This assumption comes to us as we bring you Amazon Japan’s “Best of 2006” games listing. And from what we’re looking at, the PS2 still has a strong following over there, with eight titles holding their own in this overall list. Secondly, the lone brain game (#10) verifies some recent news on this genre’s popularity in Japan…among the oldies at least.

  1. Final Fantasy XII
  2. Final Fantasy VII: Dirge of Cerberus
  3. Valkyrie Profile 2: Silmeria
  4. Utawarerumono
  5. Monster Hunter 2
  6. Tales of Destiny
  7. Xenosaga III
  8. .hack://G.U. vol 2
  9. New Super Mario Bros
  10. English Training DS

The list doesn’t include the PS3 or Wii, which would explain why Zelda is a no-show. Now, for those wondering why Dirge of Cerberus is in the list, we don’t know. It’s not clear if Amazon rated these titles based on sales, ratings, or “most viewed”. But given Dirge is here, we’ll cross out ratings.

The rest of the consoles after this jump!

On a last note, we are pretty jealous of some of the titles they’re getting. With no news on games like Evangelion reaching stateside, all we can probably do is buy their copy, and Google up a translation. Most awkward…
