Answer the Call (of Duty 3): the launch trailer
“What modern combat lacks in humanity, it makes up for in intensity.” Where have I read that line before? Modern war found its beginnings in the American Civil War and a host of 19th century conflicts among European powers. Tomorrow’s high-tech gives it a chrome-and-silicon sheen and almost heartless, robotic feel.
But World War II was perhaps the greatest expression of total modern war. And of the statement just quoted. You just have to watch “Saving Private Ryan”, or the launch trailer of Activision‘s Call of Duty 3 below for the Xbox 360, PS3, and Wii (PC too), to get an idea of how total and how intense modern combat is. Imagine all that iron and lead, all the rubble and fire, mixed with blood, bile, and pus, and throw your grandfathers into the fray, and know that they survived that.
