Anticipate your enemy’s spells with SpellAlertSCT

OK, we admit, we’ve been busy counting down the days to Burning Crusade, but that doesn’t mean that we’re going to leave all you World of Warcraft mod lovers out adventuring in Azeroth without a little something. Today we have barryj‘s SpellAlertSCT, a modified version of Awen’s original Spell Alert mod.

In case you’re wondering, the original Spell Alert was an add-on that let players know when hostile players or mobs start casting spells by showing the name of the spell in huge font at the center of the screen. Kinda like that huge “Danger” signal that we often see in movies. Very useful in any situation, be it PvP or PvE.

Now what SpellAlertSCT does is make things a bit neater. Essentially, it still works the same way, but instead of putting the spell notification in its own frame, SpellAlertSCT will send a message to ScrollingCombatText. There are several command line options that you can use to modify how the text is displayed. Here’s a list:

/sasct menu — Opens the options frame.
/sasct test — Send a test message to see how it looks. (Also done automatically after a settings change)
/sasct toggle [on/off] — Toggles alerting of spell casting on and off. [Default is On]
/sasct color [default/target/warn/emote] [red/green/blue] [0.0 – 1.0] — Sets the color component of the specified color.
/sasct repeat [number] — How long in seconds to refrain from repeating the same message [Default is 2]
/sasct ignore [on/off] — Toggles using the ignore list on and off. [Default is On]
/sasct iadd spell — Adds an item to the ignore list
/sasct irem spell — Removes an item from the ignore list
/sasct ilist — Lists all spells on the ignore list
/sasct colorize [on/off] — Toggles colorizing the messages on and off. (overrides color choices) [Default is On]

Like the GI Joes always said, knowing is half the battle. You know, forewarned is forearmed and all that jazz. We could probably fill this post with all kinds of related cliches but then again, the reason they became cliches is because they’re true. Try out this useful little mod. It could end up saving your character from a horrible fate. Just click on the download link below.
