This comes from screenshots of memos from Canadian wireless company Rogers regarding the new 3GS model. It looks like Apple is positioning the 8GB 3GS as the new entry-level iPhone model, replacing the 8GB 3G.

The 3G already got cut down to a subsidized price of US$ 99 when the 3GS was announced and judging by the discontinuation dates of older iPhone models, it’s right about time for the 8GB to be put to pasture.
