Asian XBox 360 Manufacturers: Why the 360 Microsoft already came out with the numbers stating that they have an Xbox 360 failure rate of 30%. However, while most people have been focusing on this figure, it might be good to take a step back to see what really went wrong.

According to certain Asian manufacturers that Smarthouse contacted, the reason for this failure is both cost-cutting in components and poor design. These “mistakes” were attributed to the fact that Microsoft was really trying to beat Sony by releasing their console earlier.

Microsoft have known of this problem for a long time. They are trying to blame component manufacturers but it was a combination of bad design and them (Microsoft) wanting everything cheap. This is what caused the problem along with them wanting to beat Sony to market.

A lot of manufacturers were pushed to deliver components without much testing of the components working together inside the console. You should think of it more as a design question. We had some design issues, and it’s a combination of factors that led to the problems.


The president of the Entertainment and Devices Division of Microsoft Robert J. Bach spoke a few words regarding this issue that we’re pretty sure Xbox 360 owners would probably want to hear. He said, “Most customers are going to look at it and say, ‘Great, Microsoft stands behind the product.’ Ultimately, it becomes a positive thought in people’s minds.”

Is that the way Xbox 360 owners really feel? Especially the people who’ve had to return their units one, two, three, or even eleven times?
