Quite unsurprisingly, Hideki Kamiya’s new action extravaganza Bayonetta (PS3, Xbox 360) has been slapped with a Mature rating by the ESRB. I didn’t really expect anything less from a game with a dominatrix as the heroine.

The usual reasons — violence, suggestive themes and language, and gallons of blood — were cited. The ESRB was also kind enough to describe some of Bayonetta‘s “Torture Attack” finishing moves:

Players use hand-to-hand combat, magic attacks, and pistols to kill enemy creatures that often spray blood when hit. Players can also perform an assortment of over-the-top finishing moves – referred to in the game as “torture attacks” – on the creatures: impalement with an iron maiden; decapitation with a guillotine; dismemberment with a chainsaw; and summoning a demon that bites, then rips characters apart.

As for the suggestive themes and language part, jigglies (which apparently get close-up shots from time to time) were cited, as were strong profanity in the dialogue and the characters’ provocative outfits.
