BioWare to use IDV’s SpeedTree RT in upcoming titles

SpeedTree - Image 1Interactive Data Visualization, Inc. (or IDV) announced today that Bioware Corp. now has licensed use of IDV’s SpeedTree RT software.

Bioware is known for their best-selling games which includes Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, Neverwinter Nights and the Baldur’s Gate series, along with upcoming PC titles including Dragon Age.

Trent Oster, Eclipse Engine project director for Bioware, says,

Within days of downloading the software, we had beautiful, shadowed, deciduous trees running in our upcoming title, Dragon Age. Based on the visual quality and the ease of integration, we signed a multi-game, company-wide licensing deal for SpeedTree.

IDV officials said that this newly inked deal will only lead to better visuals in Bioware’s games. And because the said support for SpeedTree will be multi-game and company-wide, don’t be surprised if the Xbox360-exclusive Mass Effect ends up using SpeedTree too. We’ll keep you posted for more.
