Guitar Hero World Tour full band kit - Image 1Remember why Guitar Hero: World Tour (Xbox 360, PS3, Wii) didn’t make it into the NPD group’s top ten for October? Supply Constraints, said Activision.

Well, they weren’t kidding.

Analysts from Cowen and Company conducted “proprietary channel checks both at major online retailers and at bricks-and-mortar retail locations,” in order to see if the demand for the game was still high despite the relatively weak Guitar Hero: World Tour sales.

What they found were full band kits being sold at Amazon.com for over US$ 300, with the Wii and the Xbox 360 versions going as high as US$ 350. The regular listed price for a GH band kit is US$ 189.

Other less… restrained… resellers are selling the kits at several times the suggested retail price elsewhere. Hey, it’s still a free market, right? (well… free-ish, anyway)

With the soon to be released PlayStation 2 SKU and more of the other band kits on the way the situation should see some relief in the near future. I just hope Activision doesn’t get any ideas with the crazy prices people are willing to shell out for their little plastic instruments.
