Classic card game Top Trumps headed for DS

top trumps

Back in the ’70s and ’80s, a card game craze known as Top Trumps swept UK. The cards featured military hardware, modes of transport, and racing cars which scored well with boys. The original Top Trumps had eleven different packs and new packs were produced up to the mid-’80s.

In the playground version, the gameplay involves at least two players with at least one card each. The starting player selects a category from his topmost card and reads out its value. For example: a card that describes a car in terms of its engine size, weight, top speed, etc. All the other player does the same. The player with the highest (or otherwise best) value for the chosen item wins that round.

The winning player collects all the topmost cards of all the other players and places them at the bottom of his pile. He then chooses the category for the next round. Once a player loses his last card, he is eliminated from the game. The player who gets all the other players’ cards is the winner.

Anyway, if your into card games you might want to know that the old classic now coming back and it has a new twist. Ironstone announced it will develop Top Trumps for the Nintendo DS with all-new characters. Top Trumps, the video game version, will also be released for the PS2 and PC.
