Community Spirit – You DO make a difference!

The PSP Community has had it’s ups and downs this year. We’ve had alot of great breakthroughs such as PSP-Dev discovering the 1.50 Swaploit/KXploit we all know and love, followed up by MPH’s 2.0 Downgrader. But it didn’t stop there, this Community kept striving to unleash the potential on ALL PSP’s and we saw great advancements in getting homebrew on 2.0+ Firmwares with Edison Carter’s GTA Cheat Device and Fanjita’s 2.0 EBOOT Loader. We’ve also seen our share of disappointments in the form of piracy, fake videos, vaporware and of course all sorts of “scene drama“.

But it’s the handful of developers like those mentioned above that fuel our Community and make it a better place for the rest of us by bringing us great homebrew games like Squarez, PSP Revolution, rRootage, and Callisto. But we mustn’t forget, we all play our own part in the Community and our actions do have an impact. Every time you write a comment on a blog, or post on a forum, it does get read. It effects people. It effects the people who breathe life into the Community.

I was saddened today when I saw the most recent report from McZonk on his upcoming Quake 2 port. The petty behavior and lack of respect often associated with PSP Community has taken its toll on this up and coming PSP Homebrew creator, and it’s hurting all of us.

I’ll really think about quitting the psp scene. It makes no fun. I hoped it would get better, but it got worse. The hole scene is filled with stupid suckers play isos the hole day and some other asking questions about iso gaming, because they are too stupid. On the other side are the 2.01+ guys. Asking the hole day to write a downgrade and spam around everywhere. Everyone is crying about the bad homebrew games and emulators. Not enough speed or too bad graphics. I can understand why a lot of developers quit.

I’ll finish quake 2 and think about leave the psp scene. I’ll still would make demos with Titan, because the psp is a cool piece of hardware, but perhaps I’ll stop make stuff for the community.

We here at PSPUpdates and QJ.net hope that this will turn out alright in the end and McZonk will rediscover the much needed inspiration that can be found in our PSP Community. It’s there, I know it is because I’ve seen it before. So the next time you make a comment on a release or post in a forum, think about what you’re saying. You may not realize it, but your words have power, and that power should be wielded with respect, patience, and understanding.

Consider it a New Year’s resolution. 🙂

Update: McZonk updated his blog to state that Quake 2 will not make it’s prjected release date of January 1st and will likely be released in the days after that. He also states that he will not be updating his progress until the release out of frustration with the lack of respect for PSP homebrew developers.
