Diablo 3 conundrums: who is Leah?

Diablo 3 conundrums: who is Leah? - Image 1Or Lea. Or Lia – how ever Blizzard would deem fit to spell her name. After much ploughing through pages and pages of Diablo lore, and sifting through every possible source for Diablo 3 related facts, there have been few revelations left unanswered. One character seems to be the center of the story to Diablo 3, yet we can’t pinpoint one thing for sure: who’s Leah?

No really, who is she? We’ve taken our sweet time to acquire, verify, and compile every clue that could possibly be Diablo 3‘s next plot. But every time we get a whiff of Blizzard‘s enigmatic character who goes by the name of Leah, we’re left with but a bread crumb trail.

Apart from knowing her first name (its very spelling we’re not even 100% sure of), research has revealed that Leah has been the a part of one Diablo fan’s question to the next, yet her role in the story that would unfold in Diablo 3 was never fully revealed by Blizzard at any panel in the World Wide Invitational or by established canonical lore.

Here’s what we do know, however: Leah was the woman who narrated the first theatrical trailer to Diablo 3, just how Marius was the storyteller of Diablo 2. She claimed to have seen what the billowing darkness beholds.

She was portrayed in that same trailer as staying within an abandoned, eerie cathedral, which we may speculate as the same one still standing on ravaged Tristram.

She also appears on a few selection of artworks, standing next to the wise “Last Horadrim,” Deckard Cain. Leah seems to be affectionate for Cain as well, as you may hear from the small chat between the Barbarian and the sage during the long gameplay demonstration.

The Barbarian called to Deckard and said, “Back to town with you, Deckard. Leah worries after you.

So who is she? An apprentice sage? A daughter? A niece? Constant hammering for clues always leads us to iffy speculations or dead ends. She could be the next Diablo chronicler, who, perhaps like Deckard Cain in Diablo I, might actually survive with her wits and sanity intact.

We know Marius could not after realizing the error of his actions in Tal Rasha’s tomb, and through Blizzard, we also know that some of the heroes who battled against Diablo himself were not spared from the nightmarish mental repercussions.

But you’ve also got to wonder: what part does Leah play in this dark chapter of Sanctuary? And more importantly, what was in the darkness that she saw?

I guess that is what Blizzard intends for us to find out, dear readers. Unless you already have followed more promising leads. Please, share your thoughts with us through the comments below.
