E3 interview: Capcom’s Kazuhiko Abe says PS3 prices may drop again

After a recent price cut, Sony PS3s may very well see another price drop by the end of the year, according to an interview with Capcom‘s Chief Financial Officer Kazuhiko Abe.

In an interview during the E3 Media and Business Summit, Abe said that “The price [of the PS3] has been cut once and it is likely to be cut again,” in order to address the sluggish demand for the next-gen console. Despite the demand for the PS2 still going strong, and the shift to the PS3 being “sluggish” at it is, Kazuhiko Abe still believes that the console’s “installed base will grow gradually.” Yet even with this week’s US$ 100 cut, the PlayStation 3’s price is still double that of the Wii’s and is pricier than the expensive Xbox version by US$ 20.

While this may be speculative, it’s definitely worth taking note of. We’ll keep an eye out to see whether the prices go down again in the coming months. Till then, stay tuned.
