EA, console numbers, and bold predictions

If you're planning to get EACH console you'll probably be doing this...GamesIndustry.biz reports that Electronic Arts CFO Warren Jenson warns us about something that we all already know. He says that it will probably be hard to get hold of PS3 units in North America following the console’s launch in November.

No duh.
(sorry saying s**t will be a bit inappropriate)

In a conference call Jenson reportedly said, “We’re thinking that with PlayStation 3 in North America, the [shipment] range is probably 500,00 to 800,00.” Sony has previously stated it plans to ship two million consoles to the US and Japan by the end of the year.

Jenson observed that the middle of EA’s predicted range is “approximately what Microsoft sold last year on the Xbox 360.” He adds that he thinks that from a consumer standpoint it will be as hard to find a PS3 this year as it was hard to find and Xbox 360 last year.

Now, at this point, let me ask you QJ readers a question: Was it really that hard to find an Xbox 360 last year? If so well, you’ve got a good more imagery of dread to add to that sinking “I can’t get  a PS3” feeling in your stomach. If not well, then good for you.

EA also predicts that between 900,000 and 1.4 million Nintendo Wii units will have shipped in the US by the end of the year. The publishing giant put the figure for Europe at between 200,000 and 900,000 units.
