EI responds to Horizons security issue

Horizons: Empire of IstariaSecurity has always been a big issue since teh intarwebnet’s infancy. Recently, players of the MMORPG Horizons: Empire of Istaria were rocked by news that they were critically vulnerable to outside intruders. EI Interactive has finally decided to come forward with a statement that addresses the said security exploit issue.

According to their response, “Horizons account information and PayByTouch billing services are secure and the vulnerability described in the article allows for only individual account exploits. The vulnerability requires foreknowledge of account information, e.g. a valid username and password. In no way does this open private customer information to outside parties, nor does it allow the Horizons game servers to be affected.”

EI also assured its playerbase that “The only significant potential abuse of this exploit is the bypass of normal billing procedures.” They also went on to assure players that exploiters can be easily tracked and dealt with.

Since the exploit centers around billing issues, EI has seen fit to give those with active but unbilled accounts the benefit of the doubt. All such accounts will be deactivated and given the chance to resubscribe correctly. After a given time period, those with accounts that remain active and not billed will be banned permanently.
