The Canuck Electronic Arts development studio is named the world’s most successful game studio by Develop 100, a listing of the most profitable studios for the UK market. While the list currently represents the standing for revenues brought in after 2006, it does raise expectations for the top 100 dev studios to perform even better this year. The top 10 developers for 2006 are:

  1. EA Canada (Canada)
  2. Nintendo (Japan)
  3. Konami Corporation (Japan)
  4. Maxis (U.S.)
  5. Traveller’s Tales (UK)
  6. Rockstar Leeds (UK)
  7. Ubisoft France (France)
  8. Yuke’s (Japan)
  9. EA Redwood Shores (U.S.)
  10. Ubisoft Montreal (Canada)

Worthy of note is that Nintendo’s sole development studio in Japan holds the number two spot in the list, proving their ability to provide great first-party titles to their console, despite being the only development studio for the Japanese games giant. Blizzard Entertainment, notably, ranks number 66 for the UK, probably not a stellar number for Blizzard’s cash cow World of Warcraft.

Three of the ten spots are held by Japan-based dev companies, with Nintendo reinforced by Konami and Yuke’s, counting Japan as the most predominant performers in game development in 2006 – accounting for UK tastes, of course. A three-way tie is held at second place by the U.S., Canada and the UK, while France squeezes in at the third.

How is this year going to turn out? Well, with Ubisoft Montreal’s bid to be the biggest development studio in the world, there’s a high expectation that Ubisoft’s Canadian studio may climb up the rank. Electronic Arts is not one to back out from a good challenge, so as long as Electronic Arts keeps its multiplatform gig going, it definitely won’t disappoint their revenue.
