EQ2 Traveler’s Tales: Retributions

Whenever a great game is made, oftentimes the credit goes immediately to the developers, designers, illustrators, etc. Basically, those who make up your dev team. However, we also give snaps to the gaming community who actually play the game because  a game’s success and the longevity of its popularity depend largely on them.

But what about those who become so immersed in the game that they’re able to weave stories from gameplay experience? Stories that could just as easily have been integrated into the game itself if only people from the dev team had a chance to read them? Don’t you guys think they deserve thumb-numbing snaps for creativity too?

One such person is IrishWonder, who has acquired the fondness to turn his characters’ backgrounds into a story, thus giving the character more depth by carving concepts from the character’s past. Never mind that this past is fictional or merely imagined, the bottom line is that he’s able to bring the character to life. What IrishWonder does is that he writes stories about his Everquest 2 character, an Iksar Assassin, and shares it with the rest of the Everquest-playing community.

Entitled “Retributions,” the stories talk about this Iksar Assassin who has driven himself into mental solitude and social apathy to escape from a dark event in his past (something that IrishWonder still hasn’t revealed…yet). Now, the Iksar Assassin is seeking revenge, and come hell or high water, he’s not gonna stop until he gets his sweet vengeance. IrishWonder has written 15 chapters to date, which he posts around every other day or so to update those who may be interested in his writing.

If this has piqued your interest, we suggest you head on to the Station forums and check out IrishWonder’s stuff. You never know, maybe they might inspire you to weave your own stories about your Everquest 2 character as well. Just click on the read link below and let those creative juices flow.
