Famitsu’s survey says lack of big PSP games hurting sales

PSP Survey reveals interesting facts from stores' POV - Image 1If you’ve been searching for a sobering look at the PSP and its sales worldwide, then you should go no further than the people who own the shops that sell you the PSPs and the video games. PSPHyper recently reported the results of a PSP Slim survey, which revealed some interesting statistics about the video games that entice the Japanese gaming audience and the reactions of stores to the release of the PSP Slim.

For one thing, one of the big reasons why the PSP had a huge spike in sales recently was due to some big-name games that have been released in recent months. Of these, Square Enix‘s Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and Konami‘s Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops+ were two of the big video games that helped bring about the spike in PSP sales.

Perhaps more surprising in Famitsu‘s survey is the knowledge that stores themselves found the spike to be unexpected. 62.7% of the stores questioned said that the sales were surprising, with some old PSP owners coming back to game stores to buy the new Slim unit. Most sobering of all the responses there is that the majority of stores questioned weren’t expecting the sales increase to last, citing a lack of future big-name titles as the main reason for their prediction.

All in all, it seemed like a pretty fair response to the PSP sales spike, though it’s not exactly the type of news PSP fans may like to hear. After checking out the responses at the read link below, do you feel inclined to agree with Famitsu’s respondents?
