Fils-Aime feeling cool, days before the Wii launch

Fils-AimeCNET‘s Rich DeMuro recently got hold of Nintendo President Reggie Fils-Aime in New York for a last minute discussion prior to the Wii launch. While the interview reveals nothing new and surprising, it somehow gives fans the assurance that they are picking the right console and they are definitely getting their money’s worth.

Fils-Aime cleared up that there is not going to be a “wonderful 11th hour” announcement for them. “In terms of what’s going to be in the box, that’s set,” the executive answered. He then implied that they have been transparent ever since anyway. “All of the other news, if you will, all of that is being finalized as we speak,” he concluded.

DeMuro then asked Mr. Reggie on how he feels whenever the Wii is being put up side by side with the PS3 and the X360. He coolly responded, “What they’re trying to do, center of the living room, entertainment hub, let them do it. For us, we revel in going on a different direction. So when people compare and contrast the three, no, that is not fair.”

In terms of specs and machine power, it is no secret that the Nintendo console is inferior compared to Sony‘s and Microsoft‘s. On the other hand, there is no denying the fact that Nintendo placed premium on innovation and as they say, revolution. The discussion then became lighter when the topic of South Park was brought up. “Obviously we love it. It’s fantastic to be in popular culture and I’m telling you, its not going to be the last,” Fils-Aime predicted.
