After making the E3 Final Fantasy tech demo a central part of the trailer compilation shown at this year’s Square-Enix Party in Japan, the talk has heated up that Square may be pursuing a remake of the legendary title for the PS3.

What may have begun simply as a means to demonstrate the power of Sony’s upcoming PLAYSTATION 3 console at the E3 industry show earlier this year seems to have been picking up steam within Square as a project they might wish to pursue. Though Square representatives have claimed that the demo was created for technical demonstration reasons alone, they have not ruled out the creation of additional content based on the Final Fantasy VII storyline. They have also admitted to being pleasantly surprised by the overwhelmingly positive reactions of fans.

Such a remake could be a strong win-win situation for both Square-Enix and Sony, assuming the game would be a Playstation exclusive. Final Fantasy VII is widely attributed as being the game most responsible for setting in motion the original Playstation’s march to the title of #1 console, and with the story and plot already in place, development would be eased for Square-Enix. The nostalgia factor alone would likely ensure that the game becomes one of the best-selling titles of the generation.

For those who have not yet had the chance to view the Final Fantasy tech demo, it may be viewed in all it’s glory [here].
