Final Fantasy XIII - Image 1Potential bad news for Final Fantasy fans: during Square-Enix’s fiscal meeting, it was revealed that the development of the White Engine, Square-Enix’s new in-house gaming engine, is currently moving at a very slow pace.

Taking into account that Final Fantasy XIII will be running on the White Engine, it looks like the game’s release could possibly be delayed to a date well past Amazon‘s November 2008 pre-order date.

Square-Enix did not specify any dates or even an estimated period for Final Fantasy XIII‘s release, so all we can do now is twiddle our thumbs patiently and wait. More updates to come.

UPDATE: Development of White Engine not stagnant

FFXIII.net is reporting that the recent news of White Engine’s slow development  may have been a mistranslation.

According to their report,

In the report on the fiscal meeting by impress.co.jp they speak of recent earnings from, and sales of, recent Square Enix games and only mention the white engine momentarily in the report. There is no further word on Final Fantasy XIII or development of the engine outside stating that development is NOT stagnant.

Looks like Final Fantasy fans have nothing to worry about then. Barring any unforseen problems in the future, it looks as if there are sunny skies ahead for the development of Final Fantasy XIII.
