FreeStyle Street Basketball – MMO Sports

Sierra Software of Redmond, Washington, announces that it will make the first bold foray into sports-based MMO gaming with FreeStyle Street Basketball in partnership with game publisher VU.

A similar game has been popular in Korea for some time, but this will be a first for the North American market. FSSB will offer players the ability to organize teams, with the choice of pick-up games or full-blown tournaments with prizes at stake. Like most other MMO games, players will be able to customize their character’s appearance, earn “experience points” and advance through ascending levels. Characters will be able to purchase gear by means of online “micro-transactions,” using their experience points or in-game cash.

FSSB is scheduled for release on 22 May, 2006.
