Games 4 Girls: Showing boys what girls can do?

Showing the boys what the girls can doAccording to the folks at Wired Life, this was taken at some game store in California near a Jamba Juice. As trendy and hip as California is, there are still some people who completely fail at reading demographics reports.

Yes folks, it’s a Games 4 Girls stand featuring the latest trends in Nintendo DS games for the feminine persuasion. It’s even got its own model who, by some twisted sort of luck, appears beside the statement, “I’ll show the boys what the girls can do!” Indeed.

It’s hard to explain why this offends my sensibilities but it does. On the one hand, the female members of our blog crew are definitely up in arms over the sad portrayal of female gaming depicted here. It kind of reaffirms why women like Jessica Chobot don’t mind representing the gamer girl populace as seemingly filled with bimbettes when that definitely isn’t the case.

Personally, I just think some of the games don’t deserve being put in the “I’m under 18 and like playing games marketed towards children who love watching Disney and Nickelodeon all day” demographic. You can put Strawberry Shortcake, Charlotte’s Web, Bratz: Forever Diamondz, That’s So Raven, Hannah Montana, and some other games with Disney princesses and Barbie in there. Heck, we’ll even give you the purple dragon known as Spyro. However!

For goodness’ sakes, it’s almost a scientific fact that real men play Cooking Mama. The best ones woo women with their real-life cooking skills! There’s also no way My Little Pony deserves to be in their depressing line-up! How many times must I mention this? Ponies and kittens are HARDCORE.
