Games aren’t bad for us: Nguyen’s “The Most Powerful Person in the World” video

It’s human nature to strike back whenever you or something you love takes a hit. Gamers, in particular, are pretty sensitive when it comes to their electronic objects of affection. Games have come under fire from politicians and various other sectors lately in the wake of violent incidents which critics attribute to gaming. Gamers snapped back with countless articles and comments in blogs, but some people have their own special way of speaking their minds, like an Australian short film maker named Thuyen Nguyen.

He created a video called “The Most Powerful Person in the World” which takes us into his way of disagreeing with the bad press against gaming. It’s pretty cool to know that some of the gaming kind out there can channel their emotions into art to speak for us all. Have a look:

The video is several days old and there’s an off-chance that you may have seen it somewhere before. If you haven’t, you can watch it and internalize the concept. In a way, it reflects a lot of thoughts we keep inside the community.

People tend to hate and fear what they don’t understand completely. That’s true regarding those pushing for some kind of heavy game censorship. A lot of these people have little or no experience playing games, making them oblivious to the fact that electronic media actually does not make killers out of kids. Then again, they said TV turned people into zombies when the tube first came out. The flames against gaming will die out on their own.

If self-righteous sectors can’t deal with porn or raunch in the mainstream, what makes them think they can stop something as harmless as gaming? Or, at least, that’s what this video is trying to imply…
