Microsoft’s branded Xbox 360 flash drives may already come pre-configured for use with their home video game console, but they also carry a rather hefty price tag. Retail listings from GameStop suggest that the cheapest of these, the 8GB ones, start at US$ 40.

These branded drives are being made in partnership with SanDisk, but at US$ 39.99 they’re almost thrice the regular price of an unbranded drive. The branded 16GB sells for US$ 69.90. In comparison, you can get an unbranded 16GB SanDisk flash drive for less than half of that.

Microsoft announced last week that support for USB flash drives — and to some extent, USB hard disks — would be added to the Xbox 360 console via an update coming April 6th.
