GDC 09: God of War 3 framerate not locked at 60fps, has no physics

GoW3You’ve seen the cyclops riding vid from earlier, yes? If not, I suggest you do so now. That footage was taken from a God of War III panel with SCE Santa Monica’s developers, Jim Tilander and Vassily Fillipov, where they discussed the game’s framerate and other development details – like Kratos‘ man-skirt not having physics.

Yes, Bob, the man-skirt has no physics.

You’ve seen the cyclops riding vid from earlier, yes? If not, I suggest you do so now. That footage was taken from a God of War III panel with SCE Santa Monica’s developers, Jim Tilander and Vassily Fillipov.

After showing the cyclops demo clip, they revealed some itty bitty info that you guys might want to hear. First up, the game will not be locked at a 60fps rate. As some of you might have expected, it’s going to have to drop a bit during certain scenes in the game. Don’t worry though, the two devs reassure everyone that it won’t go below 30fps.

They were also asked about the physics behind rendering clothes in the game, and to this, Tilander responded with the following:

I guess you might be surprised to hear this, but God of War 3 doesn’t have physics. So does that answer your question?

Umm. I’m afraid it didn’t. In fact, I’m betting it’s raised more questions (and eyebrows too, for sure).
