There’s no surprise why the first Gears of War title got nothing less than an “M” rating for the amount of blood and gore in it, as you hack away at your opponent while swearing at his timely demise. Epic Games will be reprising the same amount of hardcore content in the sequel, but will be adding a little more compromise for concerned parents who think that Gears of War 2 may not be something their kid should be playing.

A blog entry on What They Play mentioned that the game will actually be getting “filters for both the violence, and the language” to tone down the amount of gristly content the game is notorious for. Instead of seeing globs of blood after running someone through with a chainsaw, gamers will be treated to a shower of sparks. Also, the language filter conveniently takes out all the swear words in the game’s dialogue.

The game is set to be released this November 7, just in time for the holiday rush of games. It will still be a point of contention whether or not the new filters will be enough to lessen the violence in game enough for parents to pick up a copy for their kids. In any case, we’ll be keeping an eye out for more updates on Gears of War 2 as soon as we get them.
