Goodbye to WoW forum links?

Disabling forum links. It’s one way to lessen the presence of keyloggers on the World of Warcraft forums, and after the recent events that occurred in WoW-land, some folks are starting to agree with the sentiment of disabling links on the official forums.

Sweet of Korgath simply stated it, that Blizzard should turn off links on the forums. Immediately after the post, community manager Tyren chimed in with a statement of agreement. He writes,

We are always looking to increase security for our players, and while it may be inconvenient, in this case, I think your suggestion is the best way to go, and we will look into doing away with auto links.”

In this case, auto-linking refers to how the forum software automatically turns lines of URL code into hyperlinks for people to click on and follow.

For the most part, people seem to agree with the idea, chiming in here and there with their own suggestions. Agreement seems to have come more naturally this time though, as a result of Nethaera and Drakthul getting hacked themselves and posting keyloggers on the forums.

The end of autolinking wouldn’t detract much from forumgoing, and it increases, albeit rather incrementally, the protection people have against keyloggers. How about you? Do you agree with the idea, or do you think there are better ways to solve the problem of keylogging.
