Google to Buy Sun?

While Bill Gates is busy lambasting the One Laptop per Child project, rumors have been flying around Wall Street on the imminent sale ofSun Microsystems to Google . We know that both companies are in partnership to distribute each other’s technology, but what we didn’t know is that it would be for keeps.

The speculation is unfounded according to people involved in the partnership, but it will not die down. Not when we know that Google acquired Writely, a maker of web-based processor. The acquisition then was nothing more than Google buying a company. Looking at it now, there’s the possibility that the product will be added to Sun’s StarOffice Suite, if the transaction pushes through.

Whatever Google plans to do with what it acquires, one thing is for sure, Google is setting the stage for a head on collision withMicrosoft. Fasten your seatbelts.
