GoW Collectors Edition: three months free XBL Gold

GoW limited edition special collectors issue version with bells and whistlesFor each Xbox 360 Gears of War Collectors Edition (a.k.a. “Limited Edition”), “you get an Xbox 360 Live 3 Month Gold Card free.” That’s what it says over at Target. Now that sounds like a good deal, what with the exclusive stuff for Gold members only (kinda sucks for those of us who already paid to reserve the regular non-Collectors Edition).

Target says they will get the game on November 9 – that’s two days later than the November 7 Emergence Day for select retailers, but that’s days ahead of the November 12 kind-of-a-bit-behind Emergence Day for the rest of the unwashed masses.

Also, this item is available online only – it is not available in stores.

Read the fine print. What’s the catch? Is there a catch?

Free Xbox 360 Live 3 Month Gold Card With Purchase of XBOX 360 Gears of War Collectors Edition Through November 8, 2006. Offer good while supplies last. Not valid on previous orders. Free gift will be sent to the same address as the qualifying item(s) and may ship separately. Free gift and qualifying item(s) are returnable by mail only. If qualifying item(s) is returned, refund value will be reduced by the prorated amount of the free gift. Offer expires November 8, 2006.

It looks safe and happy. Of course, the Collectors Edition is 10 bucks more expensive than the regular good GoW (that’s mowing half a lawn – well, two lawns if you mow for the old cheapskates in my neighborhood). But you get Xbox Live Gold. Decisions… decisions…
