Guild Wars NCsoft State of the Game - Image 1NCsoft‘s latest Guild Wars State of the Game discusses the different builds and strategies of last October’s Monthly Automated Tournament winner Delta Formation (DF). The guild dominated both Swiss and Single Elimination rounds where it finished undefeated.

What was surprising about the team is the fact that this team relies on a balanced build and doesn’t use a dedicated split builds that other guilds tend to use. The members of DF pointed out that the balanced build is more effective at higher levels of play as compared to dedicated split tactics.

The balanced build of their team allows them to maintain a constant pressure on their opponents and still be able to pull-off splits in the middle of battle as necessary. Delta Formation’s strategy relies on high octane offense and minimal defense, and the advice they gave players reflects this.

They advised players trying to build a team not to use imbalanced builds, layers of passive defenses, and opponent shutdown specs since it stunts a players development. DF said that the team should use just enough defense to survive and to slowly remove it as the players get better.

They also pointed out that too many players tend to put too much blame on builds. The guild added that players should not blame the build but give it a solid chance to before they decide to scrap it. Whether or not it fails, players should take note of why it worked or not in the first place.

The last bit of advise they gave is for players to practice on the Frozen Isle map as it provides many tactical opportunities. It was noted in the article that the tactics used on Frozen Isle rely heavily on team placement and there are lots of 1v1 and 2v2 situations.

This pretty much means that every member of the team has to learn how to think on their toes and react to their opponents accordingly. While we’re pretty sure that veteran players have other ideas on what strategy works best for them, it might be good to take note of the strategies being employed by this team since it did win them a major tournament.

Players who are just entering the competitive scene may want to try out the suggestions Delta Formation as it will undoubtedly help introduce them to the basics of high level competition in NCSoft’s Guild Wars.
