Hasbro and Wizards of the Coast help SCEI with The Eye of Judgment

The Eye of Judgement - Image 1Hasbro, Inc. has announced that it is working with Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) on the trading card element of the innovative Collectible Card Games-meets-3D combat game, The Eye of Judgment for the PlayStation 3 (PS3). Under the agreement, Hasbro is set to create, manufacture, and distribute the trading cards that could be used with the Eye of Judgment video game.

It should be noted that Hasbro’s subsidiary is Wizards of the Coast (WoTC), the folks responsible for the mother of all collectible card games, Magic: The Gathering.

If you haven’t read previous reports, The Eye of Judgment is set to use the PlayStation Eye to help allow the player’s trading cards to be brought to life in 3D. Through the use of a 3×3 board and a CyberCode encrypted in the cards, the fights between the players should come to life.

In the game, players jostle for control of nine fields in the board, the first player to conquer five of the nine fields wins. Sounds fun doesn’t it? Well, you really can’t go wrong with Wizards of the Coast when it comes to card games. Their presence in that world of hobby gaming can’t be denied.

On a related note, Phil Harrison stated in a press announcement that The Eye of Judgment represents a “totally new genre” in gaming. We would like to note that while that statement is moving, all this is really just a few steps towards the fictional “virtual” card combat environment depicted in the popular “Yu-Gi-Oh” franchise.

We’re not saying this isn’t cool, we’re just saying that it isn’t “totally” new. All we need now is a 3D projector thingie that could be attached to the PS3… yeah, that would rock.
