How To Spot Pirated Nintendo DS Cartridges

We’ve encountered so many fake objects that we already know what to expect from these cheap imitations (though somehow we’re tempted to buy fake DVD copies of movies or programs). Pirated versions of games, movies and almost anything profitable have become so commonly available that people are already getting worried.

And they should be because the pirated copies and the original ones look almost the same now.

Pirated games are also turning up everywhere, and unfortunately, there are those who can’t tell the fakes and the original ones. Even cartridges for Nintendo DS are being pirated! Fortunately for us, there are ways to spot the fake cartridges so that we won’t have to deal with the problems they’re sure to cause us like crashing savegames, poorly-constructed carts and second-rate manuals.

Here are some of the things to look for:

  • Poor quality printing of label – Pirates will not spend much on printing fake games’ labels with high quality printers.
  • Label placement – The label sticker should be centered and aligned properly.
  • Label is sometimes incorrect – Certain pirated carts use different label artwork compared to those used in the original ones so make sure they’re the same.

Fake Logo

  • Logo and text at the back of the cart should be vertically-centered – Logo and text should be placed higher than the center.
  • Black contacts – At the back of the cartridge, you should be able to see metallic contacts, not black contacts.
  • Sunken text and enlarged logo – The original carts have smaller and more subtle logo and recessed text.
