International Karate DS

Memories of the game that was the NES Karate Kid come back to fore upon seeing this other classic, the System 3 Commodore 64 International Karate, in action on a DS. This is the old game has been brought to life on the DS, thanks to mrsid. By the way, the game also made appearances on the ZX Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, and Atari ST , but  this version just emulates the one released on the Commodore 64.

Although mrsid says “emulated”, this isn’t running off an emulator. This is a single-package stand-alone game (okay, the single package contains ds.gba and .nds flavors, but you get the picture). And although this writer was but a wee laddie in diapers when the Commodore 64 came out (and thus his first experience with karate video games was – yes, The Karate Kid), it is all but easy to play this game like old times, thanks to a handy control guide that displays on the touchscreen when you depress the L trigger.
