Jaffe sees EDI games more lucrative than God of War?

criminal crackdownCriminal Crackdown, David Jaffe tells us, was developed for seven months. Generally, games don’t take this little time to make. God of War for the PS2, for instance, took three years to get through the final stages, and some games in fact take much, much longer time to finish.

The thing is, we’re not concerned so much about the span of time any game eats up for development, but how it will turn out at post-dev. David Jaffe, in his own experience, found making smaller games (downloadable through the Xbox Live Arcade, Nintendo Virtual Console, Sony’s e-Distribution, and other third party arcade markets) are far more fun to create and more lucrative. He likens them to pop songs instead of “operas”.

Could this mean more and more smaller games that are downloadable via arcade markets will be available to us in the future? Won’t we be seeing sequels to God of War anymore? Unlike a full-size game, Criminal Crackdown is a bit like a demo but it is playable like a full-size game. The God of War developer did seem to have dandy time seeing the fruition of these “pop song” game within a few months. It’s his first e-Distribution Initiative (EDI) game. Jaffe plans to continue with this with new projects slated for development in the very near future. If we got hold of any news, we’ll post them immediately.
