Japan Remains Lukewarm To Xbox 360

xbox 360Despite efforts by Microsoft to jumpstart Xbox 360 sales in Japan by releasing a Japanese 360 Core Pack, the console’s market performance remained sluggish.

Media Create Co. reported that from September 4 to 9, the Xbox 360 sold only 1,094 units in Japan. To put that in proper perspective, the Nintendo DS Lite sold 113,831 units while 29,141 PSPs were sold during the same period.

Even the PS2 sold 19,882 units. With the Wii and the PS3 looming in the horizon, the future doesn’t look too bright for the Xbox 360.

Naturally, with so few Japanese Xbox 360 owners, none of the titles specific for the console were selling at the same level as DS titles, which dominated the top ten best selling games chart.

Traditionally, the Japanese market loves its own products and never really warms up to most western technology. Judging by the chilly reception, the Xbox 360 is no exception to the rule.
