Otona Fami,
which is like Famitsu but for more casual gamers, polled hundreds of people and got their opinions. In total, 216 gamers, 85 retailers, and 33 game makers were polled as well as analysts and female gamers. Here’s what they had to say.

Gamers
Gamers are turned off by the PS3’s high price tag but they’re very interested in the big franchises like Metal Gear Solid and Final Fantasy. However, something they found even more appealing was the innovation that the Wii would bring. They plan to wait for a huge price drops on the PS3 before they purchase it and will in the meantime buy a Wii. They are very interested in the Virtual Console for the Wii as well.

When asked what they were most interested in buying, gamers responded:
Wii: 73.6%
PS3: 16.7%
Neither: 9.7%

Retailers
Retailers think that the PS3’s biggest selling point is its brand name and strong franchises. However, they think that it doesn’t bring enough new things to the table when it comes to gaming. They find the Wii and DS interaction to be the most interesting aspect, probably due the high sales of the DS. They think the Wii might do what the DS did and create a new market that dominates the country.

When asked what they found most appealing, retailers responded:
Wii: 65.9%
Neither: 18.8%
PS3: 15.3%

Game Makers
The creators of video games also think that Sony‘s biggest asset is its brand name recognition and the amount of franchises that make their home on PlayStation platforms. They think that the techy Japanese who have large TVs in their homes might want a PS3 to go with it. Many of them think that the control method presented by the WiiMote and Dual Shock 3 might not be the best way to go for established franchises, but they’re also interested in creating new games for the controller. They think that being such a cheap system will make it a strong contender in the console race.

When asked which console they were most interested in, game makers responded:
Wii: 69.7%
PS3: 27.3%
Neither: 3%
