Kellog Company + Xbox = cereal killer?

KellogboxHurray for puns! The Kellogg Company, maker of the famous breakfast cornflakes and rice krispies and other sorts of milk-infused sugary goodness has teamed up with Microsoft to “put Xbox 360 games” in 80 million boxes of cereal.  At least, that’s what “Promo Magazine” says.

In preparation for the holidays, the cereal manufacturer has placed its bets on the Xbox to drum up sales during the holiday season. As mentioned above, their first plan is to actually put mini handheld games that carry the Xbox logo inside boxes of Frosted Flakes, Apple Jacks, Corn Pops and Cocoa Rice Krispies.

On the non-cereal end, Pop-Tarts, Eggo waffles, and Kellogg fruit snacks also get Xbox promos. This time, it’s for the chance to win Xbox knit hats, T-shirts, back sacks and other merchandise.

Perhaps the most interesting promo they have also comes in select cereals: free game rentals for a month. Apparently, some of the cereals will have an ad on them offering the promo, and you can exchange a pair of UPCs for a 30-day trial to Gamefly. A month of Gamefly is 15 bucks, so two boxes of cereal and the price of mail looks to be a cheaper alternative

Kellogg’s objective is to dominate the market come December, so they’re hoping this tie-in with the console to make a killing in cereal sales. Now if you’ll excuse us, we have more cereal killer puns to create over a bowl of Cocoa Krispies.
