Koji Igarashi on Castlevania and next-gen consoles

KojiIn an interview with 1Up, Koji Igarashi, the producer of the famous Castlevania series was able to discuss future plans for its renowned game title. When asked whether the Castlevania series will carry on with the next gen consoles, Igarashi answered that they have so many ideas for the next-gen consoles (Wii and Xbox 360), but due to complications on the market and their limited resources, they’ve yet to make a choice. In another interview, it is evident that Igarashi can’t seem to make up his mind on which next-gen console is the best for him.

Fans have been clamoring for a 2D game for the next-gen console. When prodded a bout it, Igarashi said he would love to make one. Actually, he confirmed that Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is really heading to the Xbox Live Arcade soon. “I hope more people will enjoy the 2D Castlevania experience as a result of it”.  If the reception is good, it will be an encouraging start for the team to plan for a 2D rendition of the series on large formats. Igarashi also hinted that he is considering the PSP console too, saying that “PSP is an interesting platform with a big and beautiful screen, so I would like to put my hands on a PSP version.”

Well, it seems that Mr. Igarashi has so many plans especially on the next-gen consoles. He gave positive comments on the features of the consoles that make us extremely hopeful for a new series on the next-gen consoles.

Incidentally, Castlevania is celebrating its 20th anniversary this year. The first in the Castlevania series, Demon Castle Dracula, debuted in Japan in 1986 for the Famicom Disk System (FDS) and MSX 2 platforms. So, how about that 2D game on the next-gen console to celebrate Castlevania’s anniversary, Mr. Igarashi? We really, really love to see one.
