Laptop Thieves

Laptop ThievesWould you risk getting stabbed to save your $2,500 laptop from being stolen? These days it’s hard to know if you’ll be safe with your laptop out in plain view as a man in San Francisco found out recently. He was sitting in a Mission District Café when 2 men quickly unplugged his laptop and stabbed him as he went to stand up. It was as quick as 1…2…3…gone.

San Francisco has become a hot place for thieves but police believe it will only be time before this sort of criminal activity will spread. “It’s a changing culture, and crime is following it,” Loftus said. “To the criminal element, this is a valuable piece of equipment that they can quite easily cash in on — even otherwise law-abiding people are tempted to buy $3,000 laptops for $200 to $300 on the street.”

Ten years ago no one would have even thought about bringing a 3000 dollar piece of equipment out into public where it would only taunt the criminal mind. But today with the easy accessibility of wireless internet people donÂ’t think twice about it. Making theft that much easier and common.
