Metroid Prime 3 Interview

MP3CGame Informer recently uploaded a video interview with several people who are working on the new Wii title, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption. This video interview was most likely taken during E3, but has just been released to the public. Although the voices are rather hard to hear, and words were hard to make out, I managed to gather the information below –

The title (Corruption) reflects both the gameplay and the theme of the game. There was not much information given on the actual storyline of the game, but all we can gather is that there will be a lot of corruption going around. The game will take place directly after Metroid Prime 2 (GC) and will continue to timeline. There will no longer be one planet in which Samus will explore on, but rather several (much like Metroid Prime: Hunters for the NDS). Although, production on the game began before the Wii hardware was announced and given to them, they managed to work out as much as they could before then. When the hardware was announced, there was, of course, a major shift in development (mainly the control scheme), and there is still a shift in the game as they figure out the best way to use the controller.

The E3 demo presented, and playable on the show floor, was just a taste of what was to come. This demo did not show the final control scheme, something of which they are still working on. When asked about the shift from a FPA (First-Person Adventure) to a FPS (First-Person Shooter), they all declared that it will still be an adventure game. The reason why it was announced as a FPS was because they are focusing more on the shooting aspect with the new controller.

With the new controller, there will be much more grappling than in the previous games, and opening doors will be much more enjoyable. Some doors will have you click a button (A) to grab the handle, and then you must twist, pull, turn the nunchuck whatever way you need to open the door. There will also be more open environments when compared to the previous titles, and online play is not promising. When asked about online play, a producer from Nintendo stated that they have no plans to make this game support a lot of players online if they were to go online. And, of course, they kept their next developing title a secret, but it seems to be another Metroid title already!
