MGS4 gives Sony solid boost in Japan hardware sales; PS3 takes top spot

Logo of Media Create - Image 1After the phenomenal sales earned from the release of Konami‘s Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, it seems like Sony has finally overtaken everyone else and is currently enjoying a huge hardware sales lead against its other rivals. Box art of Konami's Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots for PS3 - Image 1After the first week of software sales from Konami‘s Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots finally settling in, it’s no small suprise to see that that the PlayStation 3 console got a phenomenal boost in sales for this week in Japan.

According to the latest numbers from Media Create, Sony was able to sell 75,311 PS3s by the end of the week last June 15. This impressive sales boost was a considerable improvement to the previous week with just under 11,000 units sold.

It was certainly a week for Sony to celebrate as its PlayStation Portable handheld also took the the top two spot in the hardware sales race with 64,675. On the other hand, Nintendo took a backseat with its Wii and DS systems accounting for only 45,565 units and 39,201 sold respectively. Microsoft‘s Xbox 360, rounded off the list with 2,163 units for the week.
