MGS4 not reviewed and scored by EGM due to Konami’s imposed restrictions

FOXHOUND logo - Image 1 We recently reported that Konami imposed several restrictions on print media bodies who will be reviewing Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Some decided to live with it, but EGM apparently had other things in mind. Check out the full article for the rest of the story.

Solid Snake - Image 1 You remember that report we ran on Konami imposing restrictions on magazine reviews of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, right? We’ve got an update on that as we now see how the guys over at the print scene are reacting.

While some publications have decided to live with the Konami blockade and found ways to work around it, Electronic Gaming Monthly did not follow suit. The magazine’s latest issue refused to review the big PlayStation 3 exclusive.

Instead, EGM published a five-page roundtable on the game with much praise for all the Hideo Kojima genius that went into it. That doesn’t mean, though, that a few jabs weren’t thrown. Particularly notable were some whines about its control system. Naturally, the game remains unscored with this magazine.

While it’s still unclear why Konami decided to have restrictions on MGS4 reviews, the popular notion is that it concerns discussing the length of the cut scenes and and the game’s install size on the PS3 hard drive.  Some believe that exposing these technical details might be viewed negatively by the public.
