Microsoft planning motion sensing controller for the Xbox 360. - Image 1Xbox 360 owners may have something to look forward to this new year: a motion sensing controller. Details regarding how Microsoft plans to integrate this function is still unclear, but it appears that a first party add-on to existing Xbox 360 controllers may be the key to enable a motion sensing controller.

To handle the development of the peripheral, Microsoft appears to have chosen a firm based in Saratoga, California called Gyration. After Gyration proved its mettle by developing the prototypes for the very successful Wiimote, the Microsoft-Gyration partnership sounds very promising.

We’ve seen mods like the Xilt (a mod that adds tilt sensing to the Xbox 360 controller), so most people won’t be surprised if Microsoft does come up with their own version of the motion sensing controller. So far, there hasn’t been any confirmation from Microsoft regarding the said motion sensing controller. The rumor went as far as a possible release date for the peripheral though – late next year.  We’ll keep you posted on this one, so stay tuned.
