There has been a lot of words thrown around regarding Xbox 360 overheating issues, and it’s being speculated that a new heatsink was a definite solution to solving the problem. Now rumors persist that European Xbox 360 units returned from repair sporting a second heatsink, but Microsoft has declined to confirm or deny such rumors.

Instead, Microsoft (Europe) has simply mentioned that the attachment of a second heatsink for repair is relatively common. A spokesperson from the company said to Games Industry: “Regularly updating console components is commonplace within the industry and is a standard aspect of the business for a variety of reasons including cost reduction, improved manufacturability and improved performance.”

Whether the upgrade will 1) extend over to US and other regional units or 2) should reflect a permanent upgrade for newer units put out by Microsoft is unknown at the moment, as the spokesman did not reveal anything regarding the speculation. He simply said, “We do not provide details on these updates.”
