Midway decides not to region-code Stranglehold

It was a bit of a let-down when we earlier reported that Stranglehold for the Sony PlayStation 3 would have regional coding, meaning restrictions with PAL and NTSC systems will prevent players from running imports in most cases. Thanks to Geo, however, we can breathe a sigh of relief as he tips us off with this item.

The latest developments in the Midway forums indicate that regional restrictions have been dropped and will no longer be an issue. Players will be able to play the game even if, say, they leave in Europe and they have an American copy. Midway made it clear, however, that a Blu-ray version of the 1992 action film Hard-Boiled bundled with the game is only available in North America. If you live elsewhere, you’ll have to import it.

If you haven’t heard what the connection is between Hard-Boiled and Stranglehold, it’s fairly simple. The game is based on the movie and both star actor Chow Yun-Fat. Both are also directed by card-carrying and critically director John Woo. The game carries the same gritty Hong Kong atmosphere as the movie does, so you better get ready for some gun battles that also incorporate a bit of martial arts.
