Midway Games confirms new Blitz, MK titles under development - Image 1 As you guys may recall, Midway Games lowered the boom earlier by announcing that the PlayStation 3 ports of BlackSite: Area 51 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) and Unreal Tournament 3 (PS3, Xbox 360, PC) were going to be delayed. In case this bit of news left a bad taste in you mouth, we’ll be following up with something to sweeten things up a bit.

Midway has confirmed that new next-gen installments of their Blitz: The League (PlayStation 2, Xbox, Wii, Xbox 360, PSP) and Mortal Kombat franchises are under development for next year. Aside from these two titles, Midway’s president/CEO president David Zucker also confirmed the development of the open world games, although he did not mention any further details.

As was previously reported by fellow blogger Sally, there were already rumors circulating about a new MK game, as told by series co-creator Ed Boon. Boon further stated that the new MK game would possibly be tied to another famous franchise, and that it would be heading for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Taking into account Midway’s announcement, could we be looking at a follow-up to the Wii’s Mortal Kombat: Armageddon? Visit us again if we get a whiff of any additional info.
