MLG to be Televised

Major League Gaming announced today that they have signed a deal with USA Network to televise MLG tournaments this holiday season. There will be seven episodes, each an hour long and featuring one of the competitions.

MLG is an organization that has furthered the idea of professional gaming with a passion. Their two main games, Halo 2 and Super Smash Bros. Melee are the two best-selling games of their respective consoles. Hundreds of thousands of dollars are awarded to the players of these games every year, and it’s all done professionally. MLG does not automatically associate gaming with scantily-clad women like SpikeTV does. MLG wants professional gaming to be as respected as a professional sport.

The first tournament of the year will be held April 21st to April 23rd in New York. Entrance is free. The games played will, of course, be Halo 2 and SSBM. Guys like Karma (Halo 2) and Ken (SSBM) will be there, so if you go, don’t go with a large ego. You’ll be getting your ass kicked, but the experience is what matters.

Oh, and there will be door prizes, including an Xbox 360! If you’d like more tournament coverage, leave some comments. There are tons of large SSBM tournaments that will be happening this summer like 0C2 and FC6! Next year, MLG will likely feature Super Smash Bros. Revolution and Halo 3!
